Contained in the box is a genuine Sixpence, a silver horseshoe charm, a blue ribbon bow and a Lucky Sixpence rhyme.  The lid is engraved with the message "Wishing you love, luck and happiness forever" around the edge, with your message in the centre.

The coin is called a Lucky Sixpence because it symbolises the promise of a lifetime of good health, wealth,and happiness for the newlywed couple.  It first became known as a lucky coin when introduced by king Edward VI in 1551, and became part of bridal wedding traditions in the Victorian era.   

The sixpence coin has not been in circulation since 1967. This makes it a very special and valuable keepsake that can serve as a good luck piece, something old or even something borrowed.

Traditionally, the father of the bride places the lucky wedding sixpence into her left shoe, just before the wedding.
